How to Reset BIOS Password on HP ProBook and EliteBook Laptops
If you have forgotten or lost your BIOS password on your HP ProBook or EliteBook laptop, you might be wondering how to reset it. BIOS password is a security feature that prevents unauthorized access to your laptop's settings and data. However, if you forget your BIOS password, you might not be able to boot your laptop or change any settings.
Fortunately, there is a way to reset your BIOS password using a utility called HPBR (HP BIOS Reset). This utility can create a bootable USB drive that can erase your BIOS password and restore your laptop to its default settings. However, this utility is not officially supported by HP and might not work on all models. Use it at your own risk and make sure you back up your data before proceeding.
Here are the steps to reset your BIOS password using HPBR:
Download the HPBR utility from this link and extract it to a folder on your computer.
Insert a blank USB drive into your computer and run the HPUSBFW.exe file from the HPBR folder. This will format your USB drive and make it bootable.
Copy all the files from the HPBR folder to your USB drive.
Turn off your laptop and insert the USB drive into it.
Turn on your laptop and press F9 repeatedly to enter the Boot Menu. Select your USB drive as the boot device.
You will see a blue screen with a menu. Press 1 to start the process.
You will see a list of options. Press 1 to backup your BIOS (recommended) or 2 to skip this step.
You will see another list of options. Press 1 to reset your BIOS password or 2 to restore your BIOS backup (if you made one).
You will see a confirmation message. Press Y to proceed or N to cancel.
Wait for the process to finish. You will see a message saying \"Done\". Press any key to exit.
Remove the USB drive and restart your laptop. Your BIOS password should be reset.
Note: This utility might not work on some models or might cause some issues with your laptop. Use it at your own risk and responsibility. HP does not endorse or support this utility. For more information, go to HP Business PCs - Forgotten or Lost BIOS Password.
After resetting your BIOS password, you might want to change some BIOS settings to suit your preferences. To do this, follow these steps:
Turn on your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup.
You will see a screen with various tabs and options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and the Enter key to select.
Change the settings as you wish. For example, you can change the boot order, enable or disable secure boot, set a new BIOS password, etc.
When you are done, press F10 to save your changes and exit. You will see a confirmation message. Press Y to confirm or N to cancel.
Your laptop will restart and apply your new settings.
